X-Out
v. To cross out, or make an X-shaped mark, preferably with a large, chisel-point black MARKER. —n. Such an X-shaped mark. See also CASE NOTATIONS.NOTE: Re-using BOXES to hold something else is perfectly OK, and may prevent otherwise loose ITEMS from become STORE DAMAGE if they jostle or fall off a RUNNER. However, please cross out the BOX'S old LABEL! Furthermore, if more than one thing is in the same BOX, give the next guy a hint by writing the word “MIX” on the CASE and circling it.
This is especially important for any such BOXES going into BACK-STOCK.
The daily computer-generated PICK LIST of BACK-STOCK ITEMS that should GO to the SHELF shows only an ITEM'S STORE CODE and a short description. Suppose you're looking for brand-A, but it's now in a brand-B BOX. You're going to be slowed down in your hunt unless the old LABEL got crossed-out. That X-out is your cue to inspect the CODE NUMBERS more carefully.
